Here's everything we put into Orange Blast, in ingredient order. Our protein comes from bovine collagen peptides and milk-derived beta-lactoglobulin, and our prebiotic fiber comes from chicory root.

We include 11 vitamins to complement kids' everyday nutrition. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium for strong bones (NIH vitamin D guide), while vitamin C supports normal immune function and collagen production (NIH vitamin C guide).

We bring together hydrolyzed collagen peptides (bovine) and beta-lactoglobulin (milk) for 8g of total protein in every bottle. Protein helps kids build and repair muscles as part of a balanced diet (Nemours KidsHealth).

We chose milk-derived beta-lactoglobulin for its protein quality: it's a readily digestible whey protein rich in essential amino acids, the building blocks we need to get from food (Nutrition Reviews). It's an important part of our protein lineup.

We choose chicory root fiber for its prebiotic benefits: helping nourish beneficial gut bacteria (Chicory-fiber research review). Our bottle provides 2g of total dietary fiber.

A review of 50 studies found that chicory-derived inulin-type fibers increased Bifidobacterium, a beneficial gut bacterium, and supported bowel function in healthy participants; studied intakes ranged from 3 to 20g a day (Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition).

There's research in kids, too: a 24-week randomized trial in children ages 3 to 6 found more beneficial gut bacteria and softer stools within the normal range with 6g a day of inulin-type fructans (The Journal of Nutrition).

We want big Orange Blast flavor without added sugar. Allulose, paired with steviol glycosides, brings the sweetness to our recipe.

For U.S. nutrition labeling, allulose contributes 0.4 calories per gram versus 4 for regular sugar: about 90% fewer calories, gram for gram (FDA).

Allulose is included in total carbohydrate and can be excluded from total and added sugars under FDA guidance (FDA labeling guidance). Our Nutrition Facts lists 0g total sugars, 0g added sugars and 26g total carbohydrate per bottle.

We chose allulose because the body handles it differently from regular sugar. FDA describes allulose's effects on blood glucose and insulin as negligible (FDA scientific guidance).

Clinical research adds to that picture: a 2023 meta-analysis of small randomized trials in healthy adults found a modestly lower post-meal blood glucose response when allulose was consumed with carbohydrates (PLOS One).
